Lower School Director Leslie Hosey, Ph.D. ♦ Friday, September 15, 2017
Many thanks to all who attended Back to School Night (BTSN) yesterday evening. The Lower School program for gifted learners is as complex as our students, and we hope that you came away from the evening with a deeper understanding of our knowledge about gifted education, our thoughtfulness about curriculum content and delivery, an awareness of our love for teaching, and our sincere interest and commitment to both the academic growth and emotional health and well-being of every Roeper student. Our practices are informed by our rich history and I encourage you to take advantage of opportunities to strengthen your understanding of our progressive program for gifted students by attending parent education sessions, such as SEED and SENG. Finally, if you have not already reviewed the core documents that inform our practices, please do so using the links below. We are passionate about meeting the needs of our gifted learners and I am available to you as you engage in this journey of discovery about your child and The Roeper School.
A note about the request for lunch room supervision: Parent volunteers will be working in conjunction with teachers assigned to lunch duty. Parents will never be left alone with students and always supported in this work. Time with students in the lunch room typically involves opening packages, assisting with problem solving, and assisting in creating a calm and relaxing lunch experience. Teachers will still be providing coverage for recess duty. Volunteer support is appreciated as a means to create additional collaborative time for teachers.
A request for parking lot assistance: The parking lot remains congested at both drop off and pick up. In addition to asking everyone to use caution, pull up as close to the CCB as possible WITHOUT BLOCKING THE BUS, and refrain from cell phone use, a small group of parent volunteers to assist with parking would be appreciated. Please let me know if you can help out.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for trusting us with your children. We are so excited about this school year!
Best to all,
