Scholarship Update! March 2018

MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI CLUB OF OAKLAND COUNTY offers a $1500 non-renewable scholarship to seniors that live in Oakland County and intend to attend Michigan State next year. Your parents don’t need to be alumni!   It is NOT based on financial need, but on grades (students need to have an overall GPA of 3.5 or better), test scores, recommendations and personal statements. This scholarship is sent from College Counseling and due to the College Counseling Office by Friday, March 16,2018. David Barns, a graduate of Goodrich High School and U of D Mercy and basketball coach for Goodrich until he passed away from cancer in November 2012.  David’s Faith & Hope for Life Foundation will award a $2500 scholarship, renewable for three years to a student who best represents his academic excellence, athletic prowess, and commitment to the community.  Applications are available in College Counseling or at Deadline is March 16, 2018.

The REALTOR Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for high school seniors attending a Michigan School of Higher Learning.  43 area students received this scholarship last year, so your odds are good.  The online application with transcript and ACT/SAT scores is due Monday, March 19, 2018.  Application is at

MACAC MAGGIE MILLER SCHOLARSHIP Maggie Miller was a high school counselor in Dewitt and Okemos who was very active in the Michigan Association of College Admission Counseling (MACAC) and also a good friend of mine.  When she passed away from ALS, the MACAC scholarship was endowed in her honor, and is awarded to a student who plans to attend a MACAC member college or university (I can give you a list—basically all colleges in Michigan and many in Ohio, Indiana and some other states as well.)  Applicants will complete an essay reacting to a one-page document, The Life Story of Maggie Miller. Roeper is allowed to nominate two students from among the applicants. Applications and copies of the Maggie Miller document are available in College Counseling, and are due to me by no later than 3/29/2018. 

 Going into teaching?  Phi Delta Kappa, a professional fraternity of educators offers a scholarship for students who plan to become educators, and whose parents are also educators and members of PDK:  Deadline is April 2, 2018.

Were you ever a part of the AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol program?  $1000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors this year.  Applications are available in College Counseling and are due back to College Counseling by  April 13, 2018.

The American Business Women’s Organization of Greater Oakland County announces a series of scholarships to female students planning to study such majors as nursing, business, science and technology and engineering. Apply by May 15, 2018 at
