CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2018!

Dear Seniors:

Congratulations!  All of the seniors have now chosen where you will be spending the next four years of your lives—or at least where you will be next fall! The key word is “chosen.” A choice is a positive decision and requires no explanation or intellectual alibi. The colleges that chose you see you for who you are and wanted to have you as part of their community; they saw that you would take advantage of all they have to offer and that you would contribute to them in return.

For a relatively small high school class, you all did quite well in the college department!  The 27 of you were accepted to at least 50 different colleges—many of them multiple acceptances—and will be attending 20 different places in the fall!!  Here’s where you will be going:

COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO

DEPAUL UNIVERSITY

HARVARD COLLEGE

HELLOSIGN–SECURITY ENGINEER

KALAMAZOO COLLEGE

MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

OAKLAND UNIVERSITY

RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE

STEPHENS COLLEGE

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN DEARBORN

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS

WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY

WHEATON COLLEGE, ILLINOIS

YALE UNIVERSITY

Making your choice, you saw that you would grow and thrive at that program.   Now it’s time to celebrate yourself and your future! Your task is to see how this next step can help you to become more of who you are—your best self.

While you are celebrating, don’t forget to thank the people that helped you along the way, especially your teachers and others who wrote you letters of recommendation. They put a lot of time, effort–and especially heart–into them, and the admissions people always stress how much they rely on that information. Thank them for preparing you so well for the future. It is not by accident that you were considered to be a worthy addition to the college or program you will be attending!

Again, Congratulations!

P.S. Don’t forget to fill out your Senior Surveys!

  1. Beautiful note to Seniors, Patty. Congratulations to you for your part in their successful application to the programs they chose.

I can’t help but notice, though, that you omitted to remember to thank parents/guardians who sent these students to Roeper, often at great sacrifice to their lives and lifstyles. We all are proud of our children. Nevertheless, expressing gratitude to one’s parents should not be overlooked.

    Thanks for listening.

    Sincerely,
    Beth Greenapple (Nadav, 2017)
