This year some of the Stage II students were wondering if photographers are really artists. We set out to explore photography as art and our study took off in many directions.
We made many new discoveries including creating “cyanotypes” (sun prints) and arranging and editing black and white still life photos. We culminated this unit with color photos taken on our trip to Greenfield Village. Stage II parent Joe Vaughn did a great hands-on presentation for us about perspective in photography. Another guest artist was the artist and film professor, Andrea Eis, of Oakland Univerity who came to talk to us about the history ofphotography and share her cool camera collection with us. Along the way we learned about many artists including Anna Atkins and Imogen Cunningham. On Monday, June 9, a special meet the artists reception was held in the Frank Family Lobby in the CCB to share our work with the community.
