Congratulations to 9 year old Stage IV Roeper student, Kaitlyn Gruber, for placing first in the 13 and under category of the 2017 Lake Orion Dragon on the Lake Chalk Art Challenge! She was the youngest competitor.
From August 26-27, local artists claimed the concrete as their canvas, drawing scenes of mythical creatures for the competition hosted by the Orion Art Center. The Dragon on the Lake Festival is an annual event inspired from a century old legend of a ferocious dragon spotted on Lake Orion. Some of the highlights of the festival include dragon boat races, the chalk art challenge, and a lighted boat parade.
Over two days, Kaitlyn spent more than ten challenging hours chalking her art onto the road; “Dragon of the Cliff” was over 4 feet by 8 feet. This was Kaitlyn’s first time in an art competition and her first time drawing such a large design with chalk.
