We’ve had a terrific first day on the Birmingham Campus. There is no doubt that this school is filled with inquisitive, fabulous students who can shape their world. However, this morning I asked our Birmingham community to remember that we are better together. Our collective voice and action is more powerful and informed than any one voice. As we begin this years journey, I asked that we all look around and invite one another to join in. Leave no one out.
I also gave them a little homework… to learn something new about Grace Lee Boggs, a Detroit leader who turned 100 years old this summer. Here’s a link to an interview with her. She challenges me to think in much the same way that Annemarie Roeper challenged me. Welcome Back!!
Chinese-American philosopher and civil rights legend Grace Lee Boggs turned 100 this summer. She has been at the heart and soul of a largely hidden story inside Detroit’s evolution from economic collapse to rebirth. We traveled in 2011 to meet her and her community of joyful, passionate people reimagining work, food, and the very meaning of humanity. They have lessons for us all.
