On November 11th, Roeper 10th grader Steven Raphael participated in the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament held at Harvard University in Boston. Steven attended the tournament with a team of 5 other high school students from the southeast Michigan area. The Harvard-MIT Math Tournament is one of the largest and most difficult high school math competitions in the U.S., and draws close to 800 students from around the world. The tournament consists of four rounds: Two individual rounds, a team round, and a “Guts” round that involves teamwork to solve 36 short-answer problems in 80 minutes. Out of over 140 teams at the tournament, Steven and his teammates took 5th place in the Guts round and came in 12th place as a team overall.
