Congratulations to the sixteen members of Roeper Model United Nations who participated in the 44th Great Lakes Invitational Model United Nations conference in Kalamazoo November 29-December 2, 2017. Senior Charlie Uchno was awarded Best Delegate for his work representing Egypt in the Security Council.
Sophomore Richard Li was one of only four speakers chosen to address the conference opening session. Senior Elliot Silk representing Palestine and sophomore Alex Calderwood representing Spain were chosen as major speakers, helping pass resolutions on Israel-Palestine and Global Fisheries, respectively. Participating in their final GLIMUN conference were seniors Charlie Sutton representing Spain and Carter Wade representing Colombia.
Other Roeper delegates participating were Austin DeGuia, Andy Grekin and Calvin Watry representing Colombia; Josh Osgood, Maya Radhakrishnan and Rohan Shah representing Egypt; Noah Sklar representing Palestine; and Jimmy Giftos, Annelise Ivanescu, Richard Li and Emma Wine representing Spain.
Roeper delegates did significant work in research, writing, and caucusing, and represented their nations with distinction. Roeper’s Model UN advisors are Roeper social studies teachers, Matt Vallus and Mike Ruddy. Roeper’s next Model UN conference will be the National HS Model United Nations in New York City and the United Nations in March, 2018.
