Bella Vartanian and Scarlett Shaya are two fourteen year old girls from Girl Scout troop 76612. They wanted to find a way they could help their community for their silver award project. The girls spent time with kids volunteering at VBS and school camps trying to figure out what the community needed. After a bit of research, the girls found out that about 60% of low income families don’t have any children’s books. They went to a local mission church called Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pontiac and presented the idea of a lending library. They were informed that most of the people that attend only come one time so the books wouldn’t be returned. This is when they decided to create a giving library! The idea was that kids could come take books as they pleased. They spread the word and collected book from their families and friends. They plan to go back about once a month and refill the shelves and hope that the community will start to help out too!
