This year Roeper Upper School students will again compete with other high schools in three different robotics competitions, possibly more. Coach, Clint Spevak is asking interested students to contact him if interested in participating either via email, voicemail (248-203-7423) or the sign up sheet on the door of the Robotics lab. Middle School students are very welcome to observe and help as interested, but need to wait until Upper School to compete. Here’s the lineup:
First up is with Big Robots – up to four feet tall, 120 pounds, 1440 Watts of power in the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association (OCCRA). The kickoff meeting to announce this year’s game is September 11 at 4:30 p.m. Interested students should attend the kickoff if possible, a ride may be arranged if necessary. Five tournaments will be held, from October 21 to November 18.
The second competition is VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) with robots limited in size to fit within an 18 inch cube (to start). The game has been published so robot building can begin now! Competitions will run from October to February. Details, including robots already being built by other teams are on YouTube at VRC In the Zone.
Then in the spring is Robofest, focused on making autonomous robots. The games will be announced during November, competitions will run from February to May. An overview from last year is available on YouTube at Robofest 2017 Overview.
