Last Saturday a combined MS/US Roeper Chess Team competed in its first Jr. High (K-9) Michigan Championship at Oakland University. The four member team, sixth graders Aiden Song and Bryce Bottesi and 9th graders Blake Bottesi and Josiah Smith, played against all the top teams in the State and finished in 4th place. They showed grit, determination and focus, playing five rounds of chess competing against mostly 9th grade teams. Aiden Song had an exceptional tournament, winning four out of five rounds on the first board and receiving a silver medal.
Several Roeper players are now headed to the Super National Chess Championship in Nashville in May.
