Roeper Upper School students sometimes have the opportunity to travel with their teachers in the summer. Middle School science teacher, Wendy Mayer has been organizing trips for several years and last summer, nine students in our Chinese Language classes signed up to go to China for 17 days with Wendy and Upper School English teacher Kelly Piontek.
They went to Beijing and Tai’an in Shandong which is the home province of Confucius. Some ate cicadas, they found that watermelon was a daily dessert and that cheese was uncommon there. They saw the Great Wall, climbed the 7,000 steps to the top at Tai Shan and saw Confucian Temples at the top. They also found out that Kung Fu and Tai Chi are harder than they look!
Next summer, there will be a trip to Japan in July. There is a meeting for interested travelers on Wednesday October 7th at 5:30 in Room 11. Parents and students from 7th to 11th grade are welcome. If you have questions, contact Wendy.
