Our upper school Robotics Team started with school in September to prepare for this fall’s Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association (OCCRA) tournaments. The game was revealed September 14, 2015, then less than six weeks later on October 24th the first competition was held. Roeper was successful winning two of four matches that day, playing against (and with) much larger teams from much larger schools. Over twenty other Oakland County high schools are participating.
Teams for 2015 OCCRA are listed at:
This competition requires robots which can weigh up to 120 pounds and stand over four feet tall to collect different sized balls and score into elevated hockey type goals.
2015 OCCRA Competition Schedule with map links to locations is available here:
Tournaments this year are relatively close to our campus. On Thursday, October 29 from 6:00-9:00 p.m the second of four seeding tournaments is in our neighborhood at Groves High School in Beverly Hills.
Next tournament is even a little closer, at Marian High School. Our team needs to recruit several girls to compete in at least one match for that, the season’s Diversity Tournament, on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Another high school robotics competition is also underway using smaller and smarter robots. VEX Robotics Competitions (VRC) will ramp up in our area about December, but work on robots for that can start any time. The game for this year’s VRC was publicized last May.
Roeper’s OCCRA Robotics team Blood, Sweat, and Gears meets most days immediately after school in the Robotics shop, Room 07A.
