Over 5,500 chess players from all 50 states gathered last weekend for the Super Nationals Scholastic Chess Tournament. Fourteen Roeper Chess Players represented The Roeper School well competing in seven rounds over 3 days in several divisions. All players showed resiliency and determination, some playing rounds up to three and half hours.
The Roeper School K-3 team (Henry Billings, Bear Thompson, Goni Wong and Ohad Wong) placed 6th in the K-3 Under 700 Division.
Individually the following players received awards:
Goni Wong – tied for 35th in the K-3 Under 700Division
Kayden Pierre tied for 45th in the K-12 Under 1600 Division
Roshan Shah – third place in the K-6 Blitz
Aiden Song – fourth place in the Bughouse tournament.
We had several new players experience Nationals for the first time. A special thank you to coach Bryan Wilson for all his amazing work with our players. We are so proud of their commitment and focus during the tournament.
Practice with Coach Wilson
This marks the first time a Roeper team has placed in the top ten in any division at Nationals! I believe this is a testament to what an amazing program we have developed in a short time.
Thanks to Lisa Bottesi for sending in this news and to Heather Mayer and Melissa Thompson for the photos!
