Three Roeper seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and one senior has been recognized by the National Achievement Scholarship Program. Bia Cassano, has been selected as a Semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Award; Kyle Booth, and Michael Deneroff have been selected as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program and Adam Alpert has been selected as a National Achievement Outstanding Participant.
Students selected as Semifinalists and Commended students for the National Merit Scholarship awards scored in the top 5% on the PSAT. Of these 5%, two-thirds are selected as Commended students and receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. Although Commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses. The remaining one-third students have been notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state. Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards in addition to other requirements. The Finalists will be announced in February 2015.
The National Achievement program provides academic recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Less than 3% of the students that apply for the National Achievement program are recognized as Outstanding Participants and Semifinalists.
