Coming up next week: August 20 – 24, is Roeper’s Make A Splash program which provides swimming lessons to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn how to swim.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! The program relies on a large team of volunteer swim instructors including some who are certified life guards. Withought enough volunteers, we can’t accept as many students. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, have swimming skills and attend a training session. They may sign up for as many 1 ½ hour sessions as they want on any of the program days. Community service credit hours are given. Contact Carolyn Lett: firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday
African-American and Latino children are three times more likely to drown due to the lack of life-saving swimming skills. Roeper Diversity Coordinator, Carolyn Lett, has been leading this initiative, parnering with the USA Swimming Foundation, for eight years. Roeper has taught over 600 children how to swim. We are the only Independent School in Michigan to host this life-saving program.
