New Faculty: Introducing… Jim Territo

Jim is our new Lower School Instrumental Music Teacher. He grew up in Clarkston, Michigan and went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He taught Upper and Junior School Band at Detroit Country Day for 12 years and then worked as  freelance musician and composer in New York and the Detroit area for the last two years.

Why did you choose Roeper? I missed teaching beginning band, and was drawn in by Roeper’s progressive philosophy

Interests or hobbies?, What do you do in your spare time? I do music all the time :). I am currently collaborating on a handful of new musicals. And I play Dueling Pianos every week.

Any travel experiences to share? I drove from MI to CA with a buddy after we graduated from College. It gave me a sense of what a beautiful and varied country we live in

Anything about your family you want to share? I’m the youngest of 6- no children of my own, but 14 awesome nieces and nephews.

Favorite books and movies? Favorite book: Chaos: The Making of a New Science (James Gleick). Movie: The Big Lebowski

Any pets? No pets. Too much music- not home enough 🙂

What do you like about teaching?  I love finding the joy in doing music with the musicians I work with. It’s that much better with student musicians for whom it is a more novel experience.

Welcome, Jim!
