New Faculty: Introducing…. Cynthia Harris

Cythia, AKA, Roeper Senior Adam Harris’ mom, is teaming with Brenda Wilke in Stage II.  She was born in Buffalo, NY, completed high school in Mobile, AL and attended Wake Forest University in North Carolina. After teaching in Philadelphia, California and Maryland, Cynthia landed at the Friends School in Detroit where she taught 3rd, 5th and middle school English and music for 10 years. She took a year off to home-school her two youngest children who have joined us in 7th grade (Alisa) and Stage IV (Andrew). Her oldest son, Aaron is a rising Junior at MSU.

Why did you choose Roeper?  I was attracted to Roeper because of its philosophical similarities to Friends school. I loved teaching at Friends and expect to be as fulfilled during my time at Roeper.

Interests, hobbies, spare time activities? I love to read, sing and dance. I greatly enjoy attending theatrical productions.

Any travel experiences to share? One of my most memorable trips was to Ghana, West Africa to do missions work with my parents.

Anything about your family you want to share? I met my husband on Dec. 29, 1990 and married him exactly one year later. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary this December.

Favorite books and movies? Book: Redeeming Love. My favorite movies either make me laugh out loud or cry.

What do you like about teaching? Teaching makes me work to be my best self every day.

Welcome, Cynthia!
