Amy is our new Lower School dance teacher and she brings much to the Roeper community including her two daughters! Five year old Riley is in Stage II and two and a half year old Parker is in Stage I in the HIll House. Her husband, Don Hammond is an Executive Chef. She is a Michigan native who went to the University of Michigan for both undergrad and graduate studies (MFA in Dance) before moving to New York where she performed and taught. Amy reports: “After dancing, eating is my number one hobby! My favorite cuisine is southeast Asian fare (which Don is great at making)! I love travelling, college football (go blue!) and all things nature.”
Amy has an amazing resume with an extensive list of performances in New York and in Michigan and has been an adjunct faculty member/guest artist at many Michigan colleges and in New York. “Her choreography has been presented internationally in Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica and Italy. She enjoys continued collaboration with composer and Roeper alum, AlvinHill ’84.” A more comprehensive accounting of Amy’s experience can be found at the Dance in the Annex (Grand Rapids) website where she was a guest artist.
