Anika Hunter, Roeper Junior, has been accepted to the 2014 Professional Division Summer Intensive at the Ailey School in New York City. She auditioned at the Opera House in early March, as part of the Ailey School national audition tour. The Program is for students ages 16-25 who have a minimum of three years consistent training and is structured to advance the technical skills of dancers in multiple techniques, with daily dance classes in ballet and modern dance, with additional classes in jazz, hip hop, conditioning, yoga, and more.
It has been Anika’s goal for years to dance with the Alvin Ailey program in New York City. She first auditioned for this program when she was 13, but was not accepted. She auditioned again at 14 years old, and at 16, but was not accepted. But she never wavered from this goal and was thrilled that on her fourth audition, she was accepted to the Ailey School, one of the most prestigious dance schools in the country.
Congratulations, Anika! We are so very proud of your hard work and determination!
A special note from Anika’s parents, Kim Hunter and Kathryn Savoie:
Anika has worked so hard to earn this opportunity, which represents an important step towards becoming a professional. At the same time, we are challenged by the enormous cost of tuition, transportation and living expenses for 6 week program in New York City. The estimated total of $8,000 is far more than our family can afford.
We don’t want Anika to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so we have launched an Indiegogo campaign “Send Anika to Alvin Ailey!” to help raise the funds. Here is the link: http://igg.me/at/Anika2Ailey/x/6820772
We are doing all we can, including approaching local businesses for donations and holding a yard sale. We appreciate each and every gift and each donation, regardless of the amount, gets us closer to our goal!
