Congratulations to 2018 graduate Carter Wade who recently earned a National Merit scholarship. He will be attending Kalamazoo College in the fall, where, in addition to the National Merit Kalamazoo Scholarship, he has earned the Lux Esto Merit Scholarship and Mandelle Award.
Carter has shown himself to be a scholar in the true sense of the word, receiving the AP Scholar with Honor Award having scored 5s on all five of the AP tests he took and earning perfect 800 scores on SAT Math II and Physics Subject Tests. He has made it to the second round of the Michigan Math Competition and has attended the Congress for Future Scientists and Technologists in Boston. He has been a Gallery Guide for the King Tut exhibit at the Cranbrook Science Museum. For his Senior Project, he designed and taught a new psychology class at Roeper, focusing on personality psychology. Carter also received a certificate of recognition from Phi Beta Kappa for exceptional academic achievement.
Academics is not the only thing in which Carter has excelled. He is also an athlete, having won the 2018 George A. Roeper Sportsmanship Award. Carter has played Varsity Soccer for four years, including being a member of the State Championship Soccer team in 2014, and a member of the Varsity Track team for four years, earning in 2018 MVP and Regional Champion in the 4×800. He participated in Model UN from 6th grade to his senior year and also in extracurricular political and scientific initiatives. On the subject of music, Carter played in the Roeper band since 4th grade and studied piano for 13 years.
